So a print run of 150 costs $1000...or $6.67 per issue? That would be a pretty hefty premium for a 'hard copy' membership.

The cost changes based on how big the issue is and how many we print. We mail out approximately 135 monthly. I usually print 150 copies so that I have extras to go to the show in Ontario and the WRAM show to be distributed. As an example, a 20 page (we usually run between 20-26 pages) K-Factor, printed and mailed out to 135 people is just over $1000. The bigger the issue, the more likely it is to get to about $1200 for that issue. When we were mailing out 400+ copies, you can imagine how much money it was costing us monthly.

The problem with the list serv is that there are quite a few folks that are not members that would be receiving your K-Factor. Of course, it'd be easy enough to create a new list with members only but that's just something else to consider. The mailing would be fairly large as well. The "low res" copy is about 4.5Mb. The "high res" version would be difficult to mail out due to SPAM definitions and size issues for each mail service that we all use. Most don't allow attachments that large but some do.

Can we quantify the costs for the printed version? I for one would be willing to pay and additional “subscription fee” for getting a printed version, provided it was even remotely reasonable.

Are we talking an addition $5/issue, or $25/issue. I honestly don’t know what it costs to print, and how much is currently subsidized by the NSRCA vs Advertisers.

Regarding the ‘push’ comments…..How about sending the existing K-F .pdf over the list server?
The downside of this is perhaps the listserver s/w will not support an attachment….it might be an option though.
Bandwidth might be a problem and incur increased costs for the b/w….but this might be offset by reducing the remaining printing expense.
Or….perhaps changing the format/extension to something other than .pdf to help reduce b/w requirements.
I don’t know if anything like this is possible…don’t know enough about it….just thought I would mention it.
