Hmmm, "I spin at normal flying rates" – You do not use a little more elevator to make it a little more "flat"? Starts to get into the conversation of what a good spin looks like.

"For snaps, I want full or close to full aileron, a hair less rudder and elevator from normal flying rates." – Full aileron, like 100% of throw or full aileron of the normal throw rate?

Karl,

For spins I switch to full up and down elevator. I flip the switch before spin entry to be able to get the nose up for the stall. Once it stalls and the nose drops, I flip the switch off as I don't want the full elevator for the spin. I spin at normal flying rates.

For snaps, I want full or close to full aileron, a hair less rudder and elevator from normal flying rates.

For Advanced you will be fine with just dual rates, one for snaps and maybe one for spin entry. You will only have to flip one switch one or two times at most in Advanced.

I use three switches, one for down elevator for right rudder ,point and slow roll and one for high rate elevator for spin and then switch both of for landing. Then final switch for throttle cut after landing.

I’ve tried all the above, rate switching, mode switching and I invariably forget to flip the switch. I’m in Jim’s camp now. After several flights on a new airplane I put in enough exponential to get a satisfactory snap and go with it. One change recently was to switch out any mixing when setting up for landing. I even forget that sometimes. I would use whatever your most comfortable with, Switching versus expo.

Thanks for feedback Pat and Jim. Maybe should give more information. Looking at moving to Advanced next year. Snaps and spins will be new. Trying to determine which will be better a rate switch or flight condition switch. Guess I will need to try them and figure it out, but does not hurt to know what others are doing. (Pat, just discovered the Phase Set on my Graupner MZ-24 this weekend) Also what kind of throws do you use between normal flight, snaps and spins?

I use both. I use a rate switch for snaps and spins. I use a condition switch (Phase Set in Graupner MZ32 and MZ16) Phase set will allow different servo sub trims and end points. For instance.....I use a Phase Set called "Landing". When I flip that (Landing) switch. it removes the down elevator to low throttle mix, gives me a hair of up elevator trim, and increases the up elevator throw a bit. Phase Set is like having two radios in one (at least that's how the MZ32 and MZ16 work). Your Mileage May Vary.
