I ditto what Tony says. Anything above and beyond a regular contest at a DC would take away from the point of the contest which is to pick district champions in all classes. I probably have no dog in this hunt as I probably won't be there, due to no plane as you know.

At Bakersfield we had a blast. But a major downside to adding other paid contests within a contest are that we didn't get six rounds in but paid full price. The outcome may have been different in all classes had all 6 rounds been flown. To do things on the Friday, like it has been talked about takes away from practice time also so I'm not a fan of that either. My feeling is that if we want to fly classic pattern, we put on a classic pattern contest. We want to fly gee bees, we put on a fun fly. I fly pattern to fly current pattern. What's next, some one with an Imac plane wants to fly some iMac, so we add a few rounds of that too? Lol obviously just making a silly point here.. Although, if we can add a few rounds of paper plane flying, I can afford one of those and will show up. Hahahaha
Just my 1/2 cent...

Keep in mind that these viewpoints are completely different for one of our regular contests. At those, I welcome other fun and interesting stuff like GB's, Classic and maybe Unknowns. If they are planned in the weekend schedule and announced I can decide if I want to participate or not. But since this is the District Championships I feel anything that might detract from either the event or the ability of a competitor to prepare for the event should be avoided.

If somebody needs to trim, check out a repair or equipment, they should be allowed all the time they need on both days. Especially Friday when we are inviting everyone to a clinic type atmosphere.

And at this point I have a hard enough time trying to fly P-13 and F-13 well enough to not embarrass myself that it would be too much for me to even try to get ready for an Unknown. Again, it will add 45 minutes to the day before the awards will be handed out.

You might find yourself with not that many pilots hanging around for the award ceremony. And I think that would detract from the District Championships.

I remember at the 2010 US Nats when they interrupted the Finals to have some ice cream for almost an hour. Then a thunderstorm moved in and both the Masters and F3A Finals were not completed. Really a bummer for everyone involved.

>> To all pattern pilots in D7 – Greetings! We have been having a nice competition season so far and as you all know the season championships are coming up. They will be at the Arvin field on October 20th & 21st. There has been a discussion started on RCU regarding doing some “extra” things at the district contest. I would like to get some feedback from D7 pilots who are planning on attending the district championships.
>>
>> Point 1) Understand, the focus of this contest will be AMA pattern. Weather permitting; we WILL fly six rounds in all AMA classes and FAI. Scoring for this contest will as always be best 4 out of 6 rounds for the AMA classes and for FAI it will be best 3 out of 4 rounds of the P schedule and the best 1 out of 2 rounds of the F schedule.

>> 2) For Masters is there any interest in the top three pilots having a 1 round “unknown” schedule “fly-off” after the regular contest finishes on Sunday. This would not count towards the regular contest at all but would have some small prize awarded.
