How strong / new is the battery driving it? If you are using a wet cell they may have sulphated.

Subject: [NSRCA-discussion] Kavan geared starter question

Ok. I switched to electric for Pattern about 5 years ago.
However, I do fly a few smaller planes with glow engines and do have engines up to YS170.

My trusty 15 years old Kavan geared starter is not strong enough to turn over a .61 size engine on compression
I do have belt driven BigCup starter for giant scale also, but don't use much.

What goes bad in these starter?
I am ordering parts from Sig manufacturing since they show all the parts for Kavan geared starter in stock.

Anyone know or remember how to disassembly this starter?

  Thank you,

  Ihncheol
