[NSRCA-discussion] New AJ 5S 5000 pattern plane

I think there is a need for a US made middle of the road and higher end 2M
pattern plane.

 

I know a lot of the Masters and FAI guys buy planes directly from overseas.

 

To be honest, I'm a little intimidated about buying a plane directly from
overseas.

 

That's why I like buying from F3AUnlimited.

 

Because if I have a problem with an order, I have someone that I trust will
go to bat for me and make it right.

 

Who else in the US is selling pattern planes and related products?

I should add that Greyson has done very well with one as well.  While it's
not 2M, it's not as imposing on a young person.  That matters a lot when
you're 8!!...he is flying a new Monolog this season that we're finishing up
(thanks Mike Mueller!) and he keeps saying, "wow, that looks so big" as it
sits in the workshop.

The other thing about the 5S setup, in addition to using them later in a 2M,
is that if you really use a watt meter, prop it properly, and don't push the
packs too long the batteries will be OK.  So, my vote is a single 5S setup
and a 2M - not necessarily the same plane.

We've moved past it, but my son Sean used a 62" osiris (2 of them actually)
to start out in pattern and won district championships in both Sportsman and
Intermediate with one until finally convincing dad to let him fly a 2m
plane.    It's a fantastic beginning design.  Bob Kane flew one in Masters
for an entire season somewhat out of necessity, but quite competently.  The
only issue with the higher classes was that it took it's toll on a 5s5000
pack to fly the entire sequence if set up for the required power.    But
assuming most will likely fly it in the lower classes, it was the perfect
size.  Any smaller and you will start to lose the feel of a slower 2m plane
that it emulates so well.
