Talking about Heathkit did anyone here know that Mike Gaishin who flys Intermediate in Michigan and makes the Contra's for Brenner holds a ton of patents for proportional radios?
Mike worked for Heathkit in the 60's and 70's. He's a very interesting guy. His boss was an old pattern guy and happens to have been Steve Hannah's (San Diego) dad. His first name alludes me. Mike

Well, I don't know about anyone else's age, but I built three different HeathKit radio systems, a 5-channel SS, a 5-channel dual stick, and a 7-channel dual stick.  They all worked (!!! ;-{O ), and I also remember reversing motor wires to change direction of the servo.  When I got a little more money, I graduated to Kraft Gold systems.  Still have a Signature 7-channel "dial-a-crash" that has been narrow-banded and is legal today.  Also, I just came into a Kraft Gold 5-channel SS Tx, on channel 56, no less, so it, too is currently legal.  Will I actaully fly them?  I think I'll stick with my DX-8, thank you...

Now I feel old… Ron help me. I count on you for my comparitive youth. I started with heath kit variants of the Kraft K-15 servo (and yes, I built them all). The were slow, but hard to use. Had to re-solder the motor wires to reverse direction back then.

Good point Ron. We've come a long way. I used to use Bonner servo's on my 6 channel MinEx reeds. They were huge and you had to wire them yourself. Mike

When I saw this e-mail, I chuckled. Can anyone besides me remember when we used the Kraft KPS-18 servo? As I remember it had 18 in-oz of torque! It made up for its lack of torque by being slow too.
