A few weeks ago I upgraded from 5.0 to 6.0 and found I needed to make some adjustments. First off, I have flown every pattern plane in the “swap files” and can say (in my opinion), the Spark Evo is by far the best, but it didn’t do it right out of the box, so to say. Again, in my opinion, the Osiris in the swap files is way off. You can tweak on it a bunch and it still isn’t right. 

OK, for you guys that are having problems loading the Spark. When you go to the “Swap files” you will find the “Black” Evo. This is the one you want to download first. All of the others are just “color variations” and will not work without the Black loaded first. 

Question….If your buddy handed you his transmitter and said go fly my plane, you most likely would want to make adjustments to get it to your liking. The same thing is true with a simulator plane. When I was running 5.0 I found I needed to make just a few tweaks to the Evo, but needed some pretty radical adjustments in 6.0. The Swap files now have an Evo that is supposed to be set up for 6.0, but I didn’t find it to be the case. Also, a “contra prop” version is available now. In my case, I find the original Black to be the best with adjustments. I agree.     

OK, “down line “speed. How would you change it on a real plane? If it’s electric we can change the braking, but that is not available in RF. The other method is to put on a smaller or larger diameter prop, which we can do in RF. The down line speed of the RF Evo is a bit too slow, but I haven’t messed with it, but it’s certainly possible to do so.   I think the wing loading is too low and we need to add weight.  I could not find a place to do this.  Do you know where?  

I am not at my home computer now, so I can’t give you guys my tweaks, but I can latter today if anyone wants them. I even had to go as far as changing the CG and batteries to get the feel I wanted. 

So is it worth the fifty buck upgrade to 6.0? In my opinion without a doubt, but I don’t find the planes fly any better. What you are getting is two new great features. The first one is “trails”. You can now add a trail to your flight path that stays on the screen. You only thought you were flying in strait lines until you add trails.  Great information.  I didn't know this.  I use to have the pattern land in the RF2 that was great.  I wonder if someone already created a runway with the actual box reference out there.  

The second is “rewind”. If you hold the reset button on the controller it will rewind the flight path. Just last night I used it a bunch. Fly a maneuver just a bit off…just rewind and do it again, instead of having to set up again for the maneuver. Gezzz, I sound like a RF salesman!   I already got it so you won't get any comision.  

It’s a whole different subject, but the biggest question is “will a simulator help my pattern flying”? Long story short, it all depends on what you put into it and understand the limitations of a simulator. Personally, I have found it to be invaluable. I have about twenty real flights on the new Masters, but I would guess at least a hundred on the simulator. Winter has set in in the Pacific Northwest, so it’s pretty much simulator time until spring.  Agree here too .   

OK, a couple of things I do. I have not had good luck using “keep ground in view”. I find the plane gets too small. I use “automatic zoom” almost all the time. You will not have ground reference, but it least you can see the plane. I got same experience.  It is the only way to practice pattern in RF6.  Probably because is design to do more 3D and helis.   Thanks, Vince

Yeah noticed that and found them. I think I need to adjust the throws a little or some settings for me. It seemed too twitchy on low rates and not as smooth. Possibly because I'm just not as experienced or used to that style. Also need to look at the expo settings.

Hi Vicente, 

I'm new to pattern and just joined NSRCA so I'm probably not a good one to help you here. Real Flight has an update to version 6.5. Not sure that will help and actually the planes I fly I didn't notice too much of a difference. 

Most of the pattern planes on there don't seem right to me but then I don't really know what I'm doing yet. The one I do fly (Osiris) isn't a 2m one but is the one I practice with. It does seem pretty close to the actual one that I have. You can get it here:

It is that time of the year.  I got RF version 6.  I really don't like the down-line speed,  it is not not realistic.  I have been using the RF version 2 for many years and I was able to get fairly realistic with that version.  Just checking if someone in the list is using this program and been able to get more realistic pattern planes.   I got another question.  The RF v2 does not want to work when using windows 7 or up.  Has someone been able to run it?  If yes, please let me know how to fix it.
