[NSRCA-discussion] Cleaning out the shop

Mike,

I don't mean to imply a super powerful set-up. Dave's is very strong but there are wet set-ups that produce more ponies.  My ZDZ 40cc for example.

I am saying that the available power is shaped perfectly for F3A and the lower classes and the brakes are superb....better than anything else I've seen. The flying can be shaped accordingly.

What I need for the small gassie is a  LIGHT belt drive to turn a 21x13 MDK prop at about 6600. Brakes should be equivalent. I think it's doable but certainly not ready for prime time

I would agree that a properly running YS170 is still competitive…..but with the “cost” of more fiddling, more maintenance, and less margin on the noise meter.  For anyone starting from scratch….I think it is getting very hard to make the argument that electric is more expensive.

The Neu F3A certainly is putting the most RPM to the prop of any of the currently used electric setups, and the potential “cost” is that when propped to make the big power…..it also has the capability of smoking lipos if the throttle hand is too heavy.  The newer higher KV Plett Evo might be in this category as well, but I’ve not seen one run yet.

Regards,

Dave

Well stated Matt. Although I do have to say that the most balistic and powerful plane I saw at the Nats was Bobby Satalino's Beryl with a non CDI YS 170. Next in performance was anything with a Neu like Dave Lockhart.

 E. has many options that deliver the mail. Still a good YS is viable. Mike

I took a 3 minute flight on Dave Lockhart's Bravo several weeks ago...it was my first on a full blown electric. And it was enough to convince me that wet powered systems are behind.

The Electric Bravo is superior in its powerplant than practically every wet set-up I've seen. (That's not necessarily true of all electrics but Dave's set-up is something else...like cheating)

It's gonna be expensive but if one wants to be really serious about pattern, electric power has got to be in your future. And no, it has nothing to do with judging in my opinion. Electric just makes power delivery (of the type we demand in pattern), easy.
