[NSRCA-discussion] Fwd: Hatch Latch

I used BVM canopy latches on my VF3 with excellent results. Mine recesses into the rear deck bulkhead about 3/8 inch. I also found Gary Courney's K factor article on building your own latch very informative. P.S. Gary, my (Auburn fan) wife says Bama Fever.

Regards,
Don

 Ron,

You should mount the latch so
 it JUST disengages at full
retraction (ahem….). You want the pin sunk into the
 flange as deep as possible.
Our fuses do torque and move around as we thrash around up
 there. You need a
 cushion to compensate for that.

 this one?

 I've used this one from
 Hobby
Lobby on several airplanes …. over several years,
 with no problems.

 No argument
 on the plastic arm
being fragile. However, with a smoothly engaging
 assembly, being beefy
isn't necessary and they are very light.

 I can't recommend
 these.
The plastic lever arm is too brittle/not beefy and is
 easily broken with just a
little force, such as a tight fit. I've broken
 one, and so has Gary
Courtney. If the arm breaks, they are a bear to get
 open. I like a
lot of stuff from Hobby City, but this isn't one of
 them.

 Mike Hester put some slick
white plastic ones on the canopy of the Black Magics he
 built. I think
they come from China and have seen them on the
 HobbyCity/HobbyKing web site.
  Mike, are you out there?

 Can anyone recommend a spring
loaded hatch latch that will work on a 1/8” thich
fuse side to hold on my
 canopy?

 Thanks
