As a Sportsman, I've needed those box breaks many times to fix my line.  Until fairly recently, I'm certain I could not fly the entire Intermediate sequence and maintain a reasonable line distance throughout.  IMHO, there's plenty difficulty increase moving to Intermediate without also having to learn TAs and box management.
