[NSRCA-discussion] FAI Judges for finals at the Nats

I think it may be an idea waiting to blossom.
I have long wished for an airplane like a 40 size Extra 300 that flies like a 2 meter pattern plane. I can accept that is not pattern legal. I expect the total contests that I might compete in with my remaining life expectancy is well under 50 but hopefully my days at the field are well over that number. I would like to be able to enjoy my flying more.
Uncle Sam don't send his birds aloft without exotic electronics these days.
The proposed aircraft might function as a cross between a 2 meter bird and a simulator. If the characteristics are close enough it could provide a lower cost method for practice.
If it could be:
Easier to transport
Use less fuel/batteries
programmed for ground avoidance
Then:
It would justify a budget on par with the existing 2 meter competition birds.
Bear in mind, I am getting a little cabin fever with the limited mobility issues I am currently dealing with...

At work we just bought some GPSs that have 100ms sample rates and 1m accuracy (I guess the military cloak is lifting??). When will we have plotting and pattern recognition software that can plot your flight and give a non-biased score?

Also nothing has been said about ego's. There are always some pilots (all classes) that do not get the scores "they think they flew". Then they gripe about the "name" pilots getting a break and do not accept that they DID NOT fly as well as they thought!
Such is life--
Those are the ones I would be a lot more concerned about!

I know when I'm being petty I always try to be logical about it...

Seems to me the more direct line threat would be the FAI guy that didn't make the finals and is asked to judge Masters on a pilot that was in his judging panel, or vice versa. The case of a guy in the same class carrying sour grapes against a guy that flew in front of the same judges is simply absurd. I won't argue that it doesn't exist, but if you are going to be petty, at least be logical about it :)

Hmmmm!! The guys who made the Final were not scored by their same-class peers!! So, if the guys who didn't make the Final were given the opportunity to judge the guys who did, then the potential for a few sour grapes could exist....I think that's what John seems to say.
Considering the number of times we have cussed and discussed on this list the issue of grudges carrying over to the judging chairs, John has a point

I dont' understand where revenge scoring has a base. The guys that made the finals didn't give themselves the scores they got. --Lance ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Ferrell" <johnferrell at earthlink.net> To: "NSRCA Mailing List" <nsrca-discussion at lists.nsrca.org> Sent: Sunday, March 23, 2008 1:59 PM Subject: Re: [NSRCA-discussion] FAI Judges for finals at the Nats > Some one always raises the question of whether or not enough healing has > taken place for the recently defeated to be objective. > > I think it is asking too much of them to judge without a little time > off..and if not, it should keep the finalis!
