years ago, maybe 20, we had a similar event at our contest. Won't go into
details, but our club offered to replace the lost craft. Either the club
CD, or the "non-participant" may be able to claim the loss on his home
owners insurance as a liability loss. I did that once when I shot someone
down, also about 20 years ago. My HO ins paid for the full value of the
replacement. No deductibe!

Normally I would accept the fact that this hobby has risks and that bad
things sometimes happen. However, under the circumstances, I was
wondering what you guys think…

I entered an AMA sanctioned electric fun fly today. On my second flight,
I took off, turned downwind and realized I was in serious trouble. The
plane remained airborne for about a minute before going straight in. The
entire time I yelled “SHUT OFF 56!” After the impact, I looked down the
field to where two people were trying to get a glow trainer running. I
asked 56? And they replied “yes, we have the pin.”

Here’s the problem…there were two sets of pins. One set for the event,
and the club’s every-day pins. I had the event pin, he had the other
one. Apparently he showed up not knowing an event was in progress. He
asked the CD if he could go to the end of the field and run up his
engine. As I understand it, the CD allowed this without explaining the
frequency control in effect.

What’s the club’s liability, if any? What’s the non-participant’s
liability, if any? Will either one be covered by AMA’s property damage
coverage?
Or am I at the mercy of their good moral character?

I should have gone to Muncie…
