Our club has 2 sets. One is kept in a locked center at the field and the
other is used for "off site" events. yesterday was and exception where we
were flying at the club field but from a different spot than normal. We
kept the field pins locked, and used the other set!

Yes there is a good answer, if this was a properly organized event an
impound should have been effect. The impound table should have right at
the main access to the event preventing anyone from getting to any pins
and immediately surrender their transmitters.
Who ever organized this event surely has some blame here, and in proper
gentlemen like fashion should provide some compensation.
An electric event with someone trying to fly a gas trainer? Well I will
leave that to the more to highly philosophical minds on this list.
Fred I will make sure I call you when my pcm receiver goes to safety to
quickly land my plane while some one is on my frequency.
My club held highly attended helicopter and club funfly last year, and as
safety officer I did my best to prevent any from entering the premises
with transmitters. I cannot guarantee something will not go wrong, but
to me this incident clearly should not happened.
I sorry Scott about your airplane, that Patriot was quite a piece
craftsmanship, I recall seeing it Hadley in the spring.

There's no good answer...
The CD is partly at fault for not ensuring that the other person followed
the event's frequency control.
Thee should also have been some method used to mark the normal frequency
board as not in use... Again, CD and event staff are at fault for this
contributing factor.
The beginner at least attempted to follow the frequency control system he
was informed about through the field rules.
As soon as the model started exhibiting interference... it was time to
get it on the ground...

Normally I would accept the fact that this hobby has risks and that bad
things sometimes happen. However, under the circumstances, I was
wondering what you guys think
I entered an AMA sanctioned electric fun fly today. On my second flight,
I took off, turned downwind and realized I was in serious trouble. The
plane remained airborne for about a minute before going straight in. The
entire time I yelled SHUT OFF 56! After the impact, I looked down the
field to where two people were trying to get a glow trainer running. I
asked 56? And they replied yes, we have the pin.
Heres the problem
there were two sets of pins. One set for the event,
and the clubs every-day pins. I had the event pin, he had the other
one. Apparently he showed up not knowing an event was in progress. He
asked the CD if he could go to the end of the field and run up his
engine. As I understand it, the CD allowed this without explaining the
frequency control in effect.
Whats the clubs liability, if any? Whats the non-participants
liability, if any? Will either one be covered by AMAs property damage
coverage?
Or am I at the mercy of their good moral character?
I should have gone to Muncie
Scott
