[NSRCA-discussion] List rules clarification question (long)

When I can't find a solution to a problem, is it wrong for a vendor and list
member to answer on the list : "Try this. I have one in stock?"

Subject: [NSRCA-discussion] List rules clarification question (long)

I am sorry for how long this post is but please consider this: I've been
watching this closely as I assume other active pattern fliers/vendors are.
Marty does a fantastic job moderating and managing but I think the nsrca
needs to set the list rules.

I'm a vendor to our hobby, but as you know I'm first a regular modeler,
nsrca D6 VP volunteer and the reason I'm a vendor is because of my addiction

to pattern, not a desire to make a lot of $$$. I could stop in a heartbeat
and since my business never makes any money anyway, would probably be
happier. Other vendors may not be as extremely demented as me, but they are

close. You probably already know this because making products for a
community of only about 1500 people where all have nearly unrealistic
expectations for perfection is pretty crazy/stupid. I needed to state that
so you can understand my perspective.

I never have used the list for AeroSlave stuff, but on occasion I have
wanted to badly. This is why I'm asking for us all to create a
clarification proposal that the officers can look at. If we do a good job
I'll propose the result.

Here's my take: I agree that the list should not be used for regular
product advertising or for announcing special sales. The KFactor that we
all love is heavily dependent on advertising and since the nsrca manages
both the public "list" and the members-only magazine, we can decide that
regular advertising should be place there. However, in the same breath, I
know that if we all decided to walk away from this list and go to RCU, then
we would be subject to their rules, which don't have many restrictions and
even provide product manufacturer forums. So the real issue is not how
vendors can get free advertising, but what do WE want OUR list to be. I
reserve the right to change my mind at any time but initiate discussion with

this proposal:
=======
Any item not normal "stock" for any seller can be announced on the list.
This would include non-business guys selling their plane or DZ160 (because a

single sale would not count as normal "stock") and vendors that have
acquired/developed something special and want to announce it to the pattern
world.
=======
I could present a good example from AeroSlave but to avoid any appearance of

conflict let me restate some facts from a few years ago. Everyone knew that

Radio South sold "orange box" glow drivers. Whent he new "yellow" box
design came out there was a post announcing the product and a bit of
discussion that followed. Long term advertising has been in the KFactor, on

their website and in other locations, but not this list. I think this was
an acceptable and proper use of this list and the community benefitted
without crossing the line.

Remember, there are a lot of list members that aren't NSRCA members and
don't get the KFactor, but they still buy pattern products. There just
aren't that many of us to afford completely shutting off vendors to this
list, so there needs to be some accommodation. Remember also that us
vendors are NOT getting rich at your expense. Some products are duds and if

we can't sell enough of the good products we will stop altogether (e.g. how
many US pattern kit manufacturers are left, R.I P. Gene M, Henry Piorun,
Dixie, Piedmont1, Gator, PAC. I think AeroSlave and Piedmont2 are all
that's left). This is not good for any of us.
