Yeah, I figured as much.  I guess it would be feasible though, even though 
they just use a PPM stream from the encoder.  They still have to packetize 
all the data to transmit, so some amount of time has to pass while they 
buffer the pulse stream prior to transmitting.  As long as that has to 
happen, they might as well encode the synchronization command.  Maybe they 
just forgot to mention this in the ads?  I noticed a few mis-spelling typos. 
Sometimes you miss a detail or two trying to make a release deadline.
