I have found if the needle wants to be open less than 1-1/4 turn the pump pressure is set too high, and you will likely have other issues like the engine stopping during downlines and such.

Can someone tell me what the average hi speed needle setting on a YS160DZ is? I know about the rich to lean & back off a few clicks but something sounds different than a normal running engine like the 140L's I have. It will run at 1 1/2 turns at 8400 & 3 1/2 also. Looking for what others have theirs set at. 
 Normally Jim would help me, but not anymore. What a loss.
