I¹d also like to suggest that the ³marketing² of the NSRCA at the local
level is non existent. When I started flying pattern in 1989, there was a
push by EVERYONE that I needed to join. At every contest there was
discussion about it. It was THE source of information on everything
pattern and really the only place to see ads for and purchase pattern planes
and equipment. Central Hobbies either didn¹t exist, or didn¹t have a
foothold in the market, and those that did pretty much ONLY advertised in
the K-factor.

In other words, it was hard to participate in Pattern and NOT be in the
NSRCA. That¹s no longer the case. I¹m not really sure how to fix that.
But I do know that we no longer talk it up with the newbies that we do have.
I remember being able to join at almost any contest. They would ask when
you registered for the contest. Often there was a separate prize/trophy for
the highest placing NSRCA member in each class in addition to the regular
plagues.

Certainly district points were only accumulated for NSRCA members... So
there was competitive motivation to be in it as well.

Bottom line, the K-factor was nice...but it wasn¹t the only reason to join,
and today I think it is. Short of reading contest reports, which are almost
all on line somewhere, and lets be frank, boring if you¹re actually there,
the K-factor could easily be quarterly and serve it¹s purpose. I actually
think the web site and its links are the best feature we have, and that¹s
free to all who know it exists (not suggesting it should be otherwise, just
saying).
