I’d also like to suggest that the “marketing” of the NSRCA at the local level is non existent. When I started flying pattern in 1989, there was a push by EVERYONE that I needed to join. At every contest there was discussion about it. It was THE source of information on everything pattern and really the only place to see ads for and purchase pattern planes and equipment. Central Hobbies either didn’t exist, or didn’t have a foothold in the market, and those that did pretty much ONLY advertised in the K-factor.

In other words, it was hard to participate in Pattern and NOT be in the NSRCA. That’s no longer the case. I’m not really sure how to fix that. But I do know that we no longer talk it up with the newbies that we do have. I remember being able to join at almost any contest. They would ask when you registered for the contest. Often there was a separate prize/trophy for the highest placing NSRCA member in each class in addition to the regular plagues.

Certainly district points were only accumulated for NSRCA members... So there was competitive motivation to be in it as well.

Bottom line, the K-factor was nice...but it wasn’t the only reason to join, and today I think it is. Short of reading contest reports, which are almost all on line somewhere, and lets be frank, boring if you’re actually there, the K-factor could easily be quarterly and serve it’s purpose. I actually think the web site and its links are the best feature we have, and that’s free to all who know it exists (not suggesting it should be otherwise, just saying).
In summary, I believe the trend is more to do with the economy and the shared market by IMAC. Now that things are steady in IMAC, pattern should slowly recover as does the economy. No panic, just many factors beyond our control. IMAC and pattern will co-exist and share the market with some cross-over.

Now for those who are going to pick apart my theory, this is an opinion, but I believe if someone does the research, I’m not far off.

So…Don’t panic (don’t support threads that are counter productive to new comers), have fun, and continue to support pattern. If these things are done pattern will again grow.
The attached Chart is based on numbers on the NSRCA website and the treasurer's report in the latest K-Factor. If the membership continues to reject any thoughts or proposals that might help, I see this downward slide continuing. We are currently on the verge of being unable to afford producing the K-Factor which is about the only reason to stay on.

I tried to post this several days ago with an inline chart but the size was 4K oversize for the list parameters. It's been awaiting approval of the moderator.
