[NSRCA-discussion] YS170DZ inside info???

I flew Juan Romero's Pinnacle with YS 170 just before this Nats. At
that time he replicated Sean's 2006 Nats setup by using the APC 16x13
prop, throttle barrel restrictor, & hatori setup. Like this, the
"ballistic" power was tamed a bit and the plane was VERY EASY to set the
flying speed with. The low end torque smoothness was noticeable over
the 160. Even with this prop you could still add power in the radius or
once pointed vertical and get just the upline speed you wanted. On this
setup the plane was very quite and sounded like it was just hushing by
during horizontal passes and such. Later he changed props to the 18.1 x
10 and liked it even more. However, and unfortunate stab looseness
issues once in Muncie made him switch to his backup Brio. I loved the
way the motor flew and felt it was like adding a 4th dimension to the
pattern and made it easier to set the speed and fly - The low-end felt
very electric-like but you still had the top end power of the YS.

Thanks,
Jim W.

Supposedly it is slightly stronger (about 2-300 rpm as mentioned) and
smoother. The 160 is already really strong and smooth, especially with
the
NMP venturi. Say goodbye to the YS idle sledge hammer.

BUT I understand they have decided to rework the engine in some way.
Why, I
have no idea, my guess would be to compete with the new OS 200fi. I'm
not
sure it's necessary, I never get close to wide open with the 160, even
with
my new red brick (LOL) but ok.

As for when it will be available, your guess is as good as mine.

-Mike
