[NSRCA-discussion] Aero design question

Hi Jason,
Do you see any sense with what I am saying? I can only compare the rolling
characteristics with what I had flown previously. The IMPACT does roll very
well compared to what I have flown before but I have to be very careful with
elevator inputs during rolls especially noticeable in the 8 pointer in P
schedule. One thing I had noticed during trimming the model was put it in a
vertical power off dive and roll hard left or right and watch the model. It
just never looks axial in my eyes. Tried many different differential
settings but I could never seem to get it better.
I remember seeing AKIBA perform a similar exercise during his demo flights
at the end of the 2001 WC in Ireland and I was amazed how axial his model
rolled (extremely fast roll rate). I also recall watching your demo flight
as well. (Excellent performance by yourself at that comp)
The IMPACT is a very capable model especially in your hands. Average pilots
like myself need all the help we can get - just thinking out aloud on this
one - That is the other fun part of this hobby and that is trying to improve
whatever you already have - good day dreaming material to get you through
work.
Cheers,
Peter

Only thing that I had the ailerons increased for was to make it snap faster.
I never paid attention to the roll characteristics.

Subject: [NSRCA-discussion] Aero design question
My current model has ailerons which extend a fair way towards the fuselage
(Comp-ARF IMPACT) What effect does the turbulence coming off the aileron
have on the tail plane. I am currently building another IMPACT (IMHO flies
extremely well) which I am considering to reduce their size by cutting and
fixing the inboard part to the wing in an attempt to clean up the airflow
over the tail plane during rolling maneuvers . The model does roll well but
it could be better.
Am I barking up the wrong tree - any thoughts!
Peter
