[NSRCA-discussion] Heli vs. Aircraft radio question

Besides all the differences already mentioned being both identical programming booting up to a different mode (heli) the only other difference is that the switches on the CHP will be named for helis. Idle1, Norm, Idle 2 etc...

The actual programming in both CAP-CHP are the exact same. The difference being that the heli version will boot up to a heli and the airplane version will boot up to an acro model when starting out to a new model. All of the mixes are the same. Some other differences are as follows. The trainer switch is on the right on a heli version, left on acro. There is a three position switch on the left of the heli, it is on the right of the acro. The heli does NOT have a ratcheting throttle, the acro does.

Other than those there are little difference between the two. I am a avid heli pilot and have flown pattern and have always used a "heli" radio. I have done it with the 9C, 9303 and now the 14MZ. My personal preference is the heli mainly because the throttle is non ratcheting.

  Hope this helps.

This question is w.r.t. the Futaba 9 CAP for helis and airplanes, but I am also interested in other radios as well. I am looking at picking up a radio from another club member, and was told the heli version of the 9 CAP and the airplane version of the 9 CAP are different, program wise, only in that the heli version contains both heli and airplane programs and the airplane version only contains airplane programs. Is this true for us pattern guys who use lots of mixes, expo, flight conditions, etc????

I have not flown a heli, but isn't there also a difference w.r.t. the sticks?
