I agree.  I have been doing the same but I use the 90 degree elbows outside to avoid that the carburetor get fuel pressure when fueling (no fuel dot in refueling line).  I bet that you spill some fuel out of the carburetor when you are refueling.  Probably you won't flood the engine but it you loose some fuel.
