Thanks Scott,

OK. We are in the same page.

Servo arm is 7mm, control horn is 36mm from the hinge (top hinged Brio, small 3412SA servo!) ATV's are 112% and 115% to give +- 21 degrees. Dual rates are dialed down to +- 15 degrees.

Question or comment:

In the picture I see that you use long servo arm. Looks like the ratio in your linkage is very close to 1:1. I could be wrong because the angle in the picture. In my pattern planes, I usually finish with a ratio of 1:3. That means that if the horn (distance to the hinge line) is 1.5 inches, I use 1/2 inch servo arm. Usually the servo arms that come in the servo works well for me. One time I tried to set up with a ratio one to one and the plane was practically unflyable for precision. I use for elevator high rate (spins) about 20 degrees having the radio rate set 150% (60 degree of servo movement is converted to 20 degrees in the control surface). I use the flying modes to reduce the throws for normal fly to get around 8-10 degrees (around 65% in the flying mode).

What is your experience in this regard?

I've used 3/32 aircraft ply laminated with CF epoxied into a 1/8" slot. Shape as needed to get it over the hinge line.

cause that was back on the Jekyll and the wing was only 3/4" thick. It was easy to get it centered on the hinge line. I think the new wing thickness is double that so I might need a bit more reach forward.

If a bolt and aileron horn works well, why change it?

Hi all,

What are you guys using for control horns on your planes? Last things I used
were a 6/32 bolt and "aileron horns" with a clevis. Is that still the way to
do it or is there something better. Not interested in the MK BB stuff, too
"good" for me.

Thanks,
Jason
