I don't know how much you are willing to chop the plane, but it would be interesting to try dihedral in the horizontal stab.

I have a 60 size Ultra Stick that exhibits the same flight tendencies.
I tried mixing them out but made the plane not flyable other than
knife edge. I came to the conclusion that the Sticks were not designed
to fly with the wing tips pointed at the ground.
And yes the pull to the canopy is the same with either wing up.
