David,

If you already have a Kavan Starter all you need is a small 12 Volt 6-7Amp
Battery as used for security systems (emergency lighting). You can rig it up
as shown in the attached picture. These batteries get replaced every year
and if you know somebody in the business you can get those for free.
The Nicad packs just don't have enough juice to turn over the bigger
engines. I use mine for the O.S.160FX and it has no problem turning it over.
