I had a similar problem with the snap on the 45 degree downline.  I 
kept trying different combinations of aileron, elevator and rudder 
inputs, but, either I couldn't  get a clean snap, or I buried it so 
deep in the snap that I couldn't stop it at the right roll angle.  In 
addition, there was a dramatic pitch change and I couldn't recover it 
on the 45 degree downline.  My flying buddy, John Fuqua, kept telling 
me I needed more elevator input.  Finally, after procrastinating a long 
time, I decided to give his idea a try and added a LOT of elevator.  
Wow!  The airplane snapped great.  It stayed on the downline and I had 
much better control over the bank angle at the exit.  But, now I had 
too much elevator for flying the rest of the maneuvers, even with 80% 
exponential.  So, I added a flight condition for the snap and 
everything's working great.
