Gee Dave, I thought you were only having trouble reassembling that starter because of the driving rain and 45 degree temps that day (what was left of Hurricane Ivan, remember?). You mean it's just a design thing?

I believe what you need is a "spanner" wrench to loosen the nuts at the back end of the starter - they are the bolts that appear at the front of the body. I made my own wrench from a piece of .125" aluminum. A skinny set of needle nose pliers might also work. You will have some fun putting it back together - the brushes are spring loaded against the commutator and need to be "pinned" open via the pinholes in plastic case/housing on the back end of the body.
