D5 loss

Unfortunately I knew Charlie only via phone and email conversations and never had the opportunity to meet him in person. However, even at this he was very kind to me and exhibited the same spirit and kindness that others have described. I thought I'd share the following.

I was referred to Charlie by Lynn Osborne of UAV when UAV didn't have any Bullys in stock and Piedmont had no Webras available. Charlie didn't have any Bullys in stock either, but offered to sell me his backup, never used, Bully 1.45 (at a very good price I might add). After speaking with him for a bit I discovered he also carried other products so I ordered probably $500+ dollars of receivers and servos in addition to the engine during that first phone conversation. When I asked him how he would like to receive payment he told me he'd include an invoice when he shipped the merchandise and when I receive it just send him a check for the correct amount. 

"What? Are you sure? Let me send you a check first", I offered.

"No, just send it to me after you get the package", he said.

I asked him, "don't you worry about someone not paying you?"

"No, I prefer to trust people. It's worked for me so far so I'll keep doing so until someone shows me I can't anymore", said Charlie.

WOW! You just don't see that type of trust in the human spirit from many people these days.

I had numerous other conversations with Charlie over the next couple of years and always enjoyed speaking with him. I'm truly sad that I never had the opportunity to meet him in person.

    Gentlemen,

    I wanted to let everyone know that District 5 lost a long time pattern flyer and supporter of model aviation today.  CW "Charlie" Reed III passed away this morning after a rather lengthy illness.  His presence will be missed.
