Radio tuning

Hello guys,

A friend of mine is having glitches with his JR8103 and I suggested that
he send it for checkup and tuning since he had the radio for 3 or 4
years and used it a lot.
The local hobby shop told him that nothing was done on radios when they
were send for tuning.
What's true in this ? Does it worth sending the radio or not ? I suppose
the 8103 has a internal battery that need to be replaced sometime also.
