Sanity check

John,

1. The real critical parameter is RPM - IF in a clean (ie, pattern plane),
light (7.5lb or less) plane, keep RPM above 9500 and you will be fine.
Assuming 15% nitro, my guess would be no bigger than somewhere around a 13-9
or 12-11 - assuming light pattern plane, I'd go with a 12-9 or 12.5-9. On a
heavier/draggier plane, more like a 12/13-8. FWIW - in 1992, I ran either a
13.5-11N or a 13-13N on a Webra 60 w/ 30% nitro at about 9,500 RPM. The
7.5lb Dash Five was ballistic at will.

2. 100% synthetic is fine. However, no matter what the total oil content
is, I always run 2% castor as I find it definitely helps with preventing
corrosion - and to add some context, the only fuel I've run long term since
'86 is S&W - which is essentially Klotz synthetic and AAA medical grade
castor.

3. The NSRCA trim chart method is good - however - I prefer to fly directly
away from myself on a 45 up and do multiple half rolls and watch for any
change in track (in yaw). And it helps to be flying directly
upwind/downwind.

4. Too many variables - Ed Alt's previous answers got all the basics. Hey
Ed, missed you this weekend - wind wasn't that bad - honest - nothing wrong
with 30 degree difference between track and attitude - right?

Dave
