I did this also, but just for good measure, I used a small piece of brass tubing as a drill guide to protect the threads as I drilled through the tapped hole into the crackcase. I also held the motor above the drill to allow most of the chips to fall out toward the drill and not into the motor.

Yes. You can drill the top left hole deeper in the 1.60 of the backplate with a drill bit smaller than the threads. Go buy OSMG7909, which is the pressure fitting from the 1.60 FI engine. Of course clean filings out of engine yada yada...
Did this with my 1.60 a couple of years ago... Very clean way for pressure fitting, no worries about # of threads. HTH, Chuck
