After Run Oil

I've changed bearings on 2 strokes, flown the same day and the engine
was rusted solid the next morning. Yeah , yeah, I know there was water
in the fuel, blaa blaaaaa...NOT!
4 stroke bearings don't rust with the same fuel.
If you fly in high humidity the problem will be worse. I remember back
when we were using Rossi's and I picked up my plane and dumped some fuel
out of the pipe on my foot......it wasn't fuel, it was water that had
precipitated out of the air, gone through the engine and stayed in the
pipe.
I actually run 2 strokes with a 50-50 mix of methanol and castor oil as
an after run...this will stop that rust dead in it's tracks and the
diaphragms and pumps don't gum up either. They would though if you left
them for months. Just putting the stuff in the intake won't work, you
have to run the engine to blow out the water and coat the internals with
castor.
With an engine like a Rossi or a sport engine with no silicone rubber
parts, I use WD-40 and run the engine on it...a little above idle and
this really works. Squirt it in the intake...the engine will run on the
propellant and distribute the Stoddard solvant or whatever is in there.
Someone said there was an abrasive in WD-40....haha, don't think so.
Someone said that Boca bearings rust no matter what you do....believe
it! I don't use them anymore....two or three convinced me.
With 4 strokes, I do the same thing Bryan does....nothing. I do drain
the tank though. Usually, I just change the 4 stroke bearings because
they MUST be bad by now....hehe
Marty, Allen Baum...the guy at Boca gave me a 1oz bottle of that 'Midas
Touch Air Power Oil'. The label says it is a petroleum distillate. In
addition, there is some horrible looking crap that has formed or grown
inside on the bottom of the bottle......uhhh, don't think I am gonna use
this stuff.....WAIT!! I just found some weeds over here!

Personally, I think after run oil is a waste of time and money. If you
fly often enough, the properties in the fuel will keep your engine in
check, provided you do not have lean runs. I believe that the fuels have
gotten better and cleaner and have all the properties an engine needs to
stay lubricated. I have not had any major problems from not using after
run oil.

Subject: After Run Oil
A lot of discussion has been going on about bearings, bearing life and
after run philosophy.
Has anyone use the Midas Touch Air Power oil from Boca Bearing for after
run or fuel treatment? If so what were the results?
See ya,
Bruce
