Mintor Here.....

Hi,

To whom it might interest.

I have been running my Mintor 3M-170 for around 10 liters of fuel now in the Rhapsody, and finally
it seems to be adjusted properly... Initially I had a lot of trouble getting it adjusted and I guess
I had around 15 dead-sticks (!!!) before it ran right. From my experience with the 3M-170 you really
cannot adjust it to run right on the ground, you need to fly it in order to find out if the settings
work. The OS-140RX on the other hand is a fit and forget engine from day one...

I started running two OS#F plugs and 10% nitro fuel, but that was not working properly. Then I did
as described in the instructions and ran two OS A5 plugs and 15% nitro fuel. This was DEFFINETELY
NOT an improvement; it was very rich in the idle and midrange, but lean on the top end. Then I
replaced the rear plug with an OS#F plug, and this really transformed the engine. Now the idle and
mid-range were much better, and the high-end could be richened as it should be. Finally I opened up
some more air-exit holes in the cowling, and now everything seems dandy!

I initially ran an APC 16.5x12W prop, but it was rather noisy in the air since the ground RPM were
around 8700. I guess it was above 9000RPM in the air, unloading... This Sunday I installed an APC
17x13 standard prop instead and this made the RPM drop to 7800-7900 on the ground. Now the sound in
the air is much more pleasant. Power is MUCH improved over the OS-140RX, and it seems to be a fine
engine once you get it adjusted properly.

My set-up is:

Mintor 3M-170 with uncut Mintor header
    OS A5 plug front
    OS #F plug rear
    15% nitro, 15% Aerosynth 2 synth. oil
The new high volume Greve pipe @ 73cm from exhaust flange to first baffle
APC 17x13 prop (standard NOT narrow blade)
    RPM: 7800-7900

Best regards,
Morten Laugesen
