Scoring Vs Judging

I have to agree with Chris on this one. With the finals, where there are often 10-12 judges, this is probably appropriate and statistically relevant. But with 5 or even 4 judges which has often been the case, throwing out highs and lows is more likely to eliminate the discerning judges and leave those that simply hand out a slurry of 7's and 8's. In some cases, where a particular judge is "tougher" than his colleagues...I've seen that entire judge be thrown out since his were always the low....meaning he justed wasted his time.

Most that argue in favor of eliminating the high and low with this few judges use the arguement that it will eliminate the spurious ( and assumed to be erroneous) Zero...but I think it's just as likely to throw out the correct zero...

My 2 cents worth...

PS... Flying Sportsman at the Nats in '91 I did a double stall turn and received a 9, 9, 2 from the three judges. It was frustrating, but highlighted the fact that this is a subjective sport. Presentation and perception is everything.

All I was trying to say is that dropping of high and low scores has been the norm for the last number of years in the "Masters" Class. This doesn't mean that it has always been done this way or will always be done this way, there are always variables that could change the conditions, but please tell me if I am wrong and this is not the way the scoring has been handled in the "Masters" class.
I have been complaining about this issue since it was initiated.
Maybe, you can explain how it works better than anyone seeing you wrote and setup the programs that are used at the Nats.

Chris

This is not always the case at the Nats.
High-low discard is totally dependent on the number of judges for the round.
