And the credit card machines wouldn't work.  And, since nobody carries 
cash anymore, they'd all head for the ATMs, but they wouldn't work 
either.  It reminded me of the day one of the satellites which support 
cell phones went on the blink and half the cell phones wouldn't work.  I 
imagine there were still some bozos driving around with dead cell phones 
held to their ears.
