Don't won't to sound like I'm being a smart butt here, but if you take your
time with the iron, and really seal the edges well, they won't lift. You
need a proper overlap, and a covering plan so that things over lap like
shingles, and seal the model fully when your done.
when putting color over color at a seem be sure to wipe the edges clean, and
I often use trim solvent to clean the covering I am overlapping to be sure
"nothing" is on it. This way, the seam is absolutely closed, and sealed.
I do clearcoat decals ( vinyl stuff ) but I truly don;t have issues with the
covering lifting.
This is not the only way to do it, just they way I do it.

What is the preferred method of sealing the edges of Monokote or
Ultracote? Back ten years ago I used to mix up K&B Superpoxy clear with
gloss harnened in a 1 oz cup, and brush with a nice paint brush along the
leading edges and corners, any place that would be prone to lifting.
What else do you guys do, if anything, to seal these edges?

I have not been doing any sealing, the key is to get the edges REALLY hot,
they will stay down if they are put down hot (speaking of monocote, I quit
using Ultracote because is doesn't seal as well) Any of the current clear
topcotes PPG, DuPount etc would work and I have used this to lay monocote
trim on a glass fuse, better than K&B because doesn't yellow.
