Terry...yes you are 180 out. Should be just forward of 12 o'clock at tdc
with valves closed

OK, we got it apart, changed the bearings, and got all the parts back
together again! But it will not run. It wants to start backward, but
will not sustain the run. I am sure the
problem is in the timing position.
With the piston at TDC, where should the little alignment dimple be? I
installed it at the 6:00 position as you look at the
cam shaft from the right side of the engine. I suspect I may be 180
degrees off! BTW the disassembly broblem was solf=ved when I heated it
to 275 degrees for 1/2 hour.
