Actually, I think even less than 20-30% participate in the freestyle event.
Even a large contest with 40-50 pilots may see only 4-5 guys flying
freestyle.  Many contests get only one or two.

The freestyle is the most visible aspect for non IMAC flyers and so
the misconception prevails that it is the central emphasis.  Many of
the guys you see hovering over the runway have never been to a contest
and may not even be IMAC members, even they they refer to themselves
as IMAC flyers.  They just don't know any better.
