OK Carl, the long answer.
Flight condition is very useful to change the entire setup of the airplane, sum or all conditions like rate settings trim settings ect. My TX allows using the same or different settings for everything. Useful for considerable altitude changes such as hot dry thin or cold wet thick air, but one will need to fly in those conditions a lot or often to be able to get similar TX feel and airplane performance. Decades ago (ballistic airplanes) I ran a slightly long pipe setting and changed prop pitch to achieve comfortable similar flight performance between here and the coast before running bigger props and four strokes.
My problem is – the airplane has KE pitch to the belly with the CG as far back as I would like or need for spin entry without using dual rate or more end point and higher expo to accommodating spin entry. I’ve never been happy with any more than about 30% expo on aileron and elevator. Yes this would work but the stick movement gets too touchy. I set end points only slightly more than needed for radiuses and rolls, requiring a pretty neutral flying airplane.
With respect to mix – Again I’ve never been happy with any more than 4-5% mix because if left on all the time it can and often adversely effects other aspects of the flight – thus a flight condition fix, but forgetting to throw the switch will lead to inconsistent stick feel and sloppy flying (but I do that anyway now).
Ae pat indicated it can be useful for landing and spin entry by adding elevator up travel (end point) and setting a little up trim so that landing approach (final)
Can be more easily controlled with throttle. Years ago I had a scale airplane that was hard to land and set some up trim for landing. Controlling the decent with throttle helps maintain glide airspeed to prevent stalling or proposing trying to ‘feel’ airspeed with the TX stick. Haven’t needed or used it in decades, actually since we started flying long tail airplanes, they are much softer in elevator response and can use more elevator deflection relative to comfortable TX stick feel. To flair before setting down hard and bouncing.
By now you are probably confused. Its all about a comfortable TX stick feel.
Jim

Thanks for feedback Pat and Jim.  Maybe should give more information.  Looking at moving to Advanced next year.  Snaps and spins will be new.  Trying to determine which will be better a rate switch or flight condition switch.  Guess I will need to try them and figure it out, but does not hurt to know what others are doing.    (Pat, just discovered the Phase Set on my Graupner MZ-24 this weekend)  Also what kind of throws do you use between normal flight, snaps and spins?

I use both. I use a rate switch for snaps and spins. I use a condition switch (Phase Set in Graupner MZ32 and MZ16) Phase set will allow different servo sub trims and end points. For instance.....I use a Phase Set called "Landing". When I flip that (Landing) switch. it removes the down elevator to low throttle mix, gives me a hair of up elevator trim, and increases the up elevator throw a bit. Phase Set is like having two radios in one (at least that's how the MZ32 and MZ16 work). Your Mileage May Vary.
