>From a newbies stand point this stuff from District 8 the last week is
informative. I'm learning a lot about the back ground details of pattern
flying. It's hard enough keeping wings level and flying in a straight line
now. But, this stuff is all good to me. I'm sure it will improve my
understanding of all things pertaining to the sequences. More...

Ok how about learning the upper classes the old fashion way by actually
watching the maneuvers being flown and reading the maneuver descriptions and
asking questions. Most of the lower class fliers at Contests only watch their
own class being flown.

I totally agree with Lyle, its our job as judges to learn the maneuvers in
the class we are judging. We spend alot of time going through the new
sequences in the judging seminars. We still need to spend time watching and
more important calling different classes during practice. Its hard to judge
a sequence if you don't know what maneuver is being flown and whats coming
up next. We have talked of flying at the judging seminar but have yet to get
it done, it might work better to do it at an actual contest if time permits.

Maybe it would be useful to do something similar to what is done at the
Nats. On a Friday afternoon schedule a couple of trial Masters and FAI
flights and have some "junior" judges sit with "senior" judges and openly
discuss during the flight what the senior judge is observing.

Very good idea. Most of the guys are at the field and flying Friday anyway.

Started flying Knife Edge Humpty and Integrated Rolls yesterday. Now I
really don't understand what the problem was.
Both are quite easy but very sensitive to technique. Both respond well to
proper throttle management, more so than was needed previous schedules.
I found entering the integrated roll with little more airspeed than is
needed to hold the radius with a high idle seemed to work without using
rudder at all, managing the arc radius with throttle. Now I should ask an
FAI flier how it should be done.
I'm puzzled by the K-5 it seemed easier than that. A large full height
maneuver will likely be harder, I'll find out next time out.
In any case it is a welcome addition to masters.
Jim
