Karl,

The big issue is not people to run the contest, rather numbers of pilots. Most all clubs utilize events as ours as a fund raiser. When the numbers of pilots gets down in the 10 to 12 range or lower, they just don't become economically viable to give up their field for two days. When a small group of guys as ours is spreed between ten contest, dropout per event is going to happen...which we have seen this year. Bottom line is less contest (should) relate to more participation at each contest.

In Western Canada, they only have four contest per year.

Well, this is my input as a "newbie".  In a district this size I believe more contests are better.  As I evaluated my involvement I looked at how many contests I could attend, distance was the bottom line.  To make it worth the time and effort I felt 3-4.  With the number of contests, spread, and driving distance I can do this.  It the number of contests are reduced, depending on where they are held I may not be able to attend as many.  I know it is a HUGE burden on the small number or people who organize and run these contests.  Maybe the solution is not to reduce the number or contests, but to recruit and train more people to run them.

I agree with the idea of six contests; but would like to add I think it is important we keep all our contests, they offer "pattern" exposure to a lot of clubs in the Northwest. My suggestion is to hold some of our current contests every other year on a rotational basis. This way contests can easily added and subtracted from the mix.

Something I have thought about doing with the Boise contest is to find a place in eastern Idaho to hold it every other year. A contest further east would not have to give any consideration to the main D8 schedule because of sheer distance for most of our ranks. Montana and Wyoming are D8 too.

I would like to make a proposal for the 2015 contest season. This is nothing official its just food for thought as we progress through the 2014 season. I think we have too many contests, the summer is full with events every two weeks. This is a small district and I think we would be better served with fewer contests. My wife Meri had a great suggestion that I think we should consider, lets have one contest per month starting in May and ending in October. This would be 6 contests with several weeks between each contest. This can only happen if all the CDs work together and we develop the 2015 plan soon. So lets start discussing the 2015 schedule!
