[NSRCA-dist7] Contest conflicts

The "lecture" I gave Tony was to be more flexible with his date as it is a
new contest and shouldn't conflict with traditional dates. The BARCS
contest has always been held the last week of April but for the past
several years we've had weather issues on that weekend and for the 1st time
last year we moved the date to the 1st weekend in May. Guess what? We got
rained out again - so we decided to keep it at the 1st weekend in May going
forward since we felt our odds would be better. Since it didn't interfere
or conflict with any traditional contests in previous years we thought we'd
be ok. Our board is limited to the dates we can use and moving it to the
following weekend won't work (Mother's Day). I'm not going back either
since that conflicts with other activities.

The only other option I have is to cancel the contest - which I what I'm
leaning toward anyway. I'm tired of this bickering back and forth about who
said what, etc.

Kris,

When Leon and I set the date for the Arvin contest we looked at the last
several years of the contest schedule. The BARCS meet has changed their
dates several times over the last few years, so they do not have a
"traditional" date. Most years the BARCS meet has been held on the last
weekend in April. Last year the BARCS meet was scheduled for the first
weekend in May, but they had bad weather and moved it to August, which as
far as I know, everyone liked it then. If we move the Arvin meet one weekend
back or one weekend up, we bump against the Riverside meet or the Hemet
meet, something I did not want to do. So we really could not have it on a
different weekend in May. There were really no open weekends in April. So
when do you think we should have scheduled the Arvin meet? I can tell you
this, if the BARCS meet was scheduled the same weekend as either Riverside
or Hemet, it would have little to no impact, especially the same weekend as
Hemet. No one going to Hemet would be also going to BARCS. Or if the BARCS
meet could be moved to May 8, 9, it would work out a lot better.

I tried to work with Derek on this but basically got a lecture and no
compromise. I'm sorry it is a conflict, as I do know many from the "north"
who would like to go to Arvin. It's a great place to fly!

Just looking over contests for the year and wondering why Arvin is being
held the same weekend as Richmond. Richmond is held around that time every
year depending on weather if I remember correctly.. I hate to miss Arvin
because of this situation. I really like flying there. Bummer to have the
lower turnout at Arvin because of this because I'm sure many from the north
would travel there..

Are these dates correct?

Thanks!

Chris
