Subject: Nats logistics and additional information
All,
As we get more information (or questions get answered) I will pass on the information to you all as well. Here is what we have so far…
Q. Is there power (electricity) available at the site and will there be shade available or should we bring an EZ-Up.
A. There are 3 main buildings that are at our disposal:
* Headquarters will be the control tower - it is newly remodeled and being finished now - this is spacious and air conditioned. We have a meeting room available here and that is where we will do all the tabulation etc. It has a pilot’s lounge with TV and weather stations etc.
* Fire Station - this will have 25-30 charging stations set up. In addition, you will be able to store whatever you want to keep at the site overnight. It is a very big building.
* Aircraft Hangar - this thing is huge!! It has lighting and will be swept clean. In the event of rain, we will be using this for eating, hanging out, etc.
There will be 40’x20’ tents and porta-potties at each site (3). If you bring your own pop-ups (EZ-Ups), we are going to provide tie downs for your use. There is no electricity at the flying sites, so if you need electricity for charging or brewing a cup, then you’ll have to bring a generator.
Q. When will we be allowed to practice and where are the practice sites?
A. We plan to start practice on Friday before the event (July 21st). The condition is that if you practice on site then you WILL be required to help set up. All we will need is a couple of hours from each person. We will have practice sites on the base – we are hoping to have 8 – 10 practice sites available (the place is HUGE).
Q. I’ve never used the electronic scribe and I’ve reviewed the video. Will we be able to practice with the e-scribe beforehand?
A. A demo session will be held showing how the e-scribe is used and what to score. More details on this will follow.
Q. Are Sportsman pilots expected to judge and pass the judge certification?
A. The hope is that Sportsman pilots will not be asked to judge at the Nats but it all depends on the number of entries and how the judging assignments will work. We do suggest taking the test as it will give you insight on what the judges are looking for when they are judging. If you don’t judge at the Nats, then at some point down the road after you move up a class, you will then be asked to judge – again, it’s always good to learn more about the rules of precision aerobatics.
Q. Why are the lunches expensive?
A. The prices charged are given to us by the vendor and gives you an opportunity to sample the local cuisine. The NSRCA is not making any money off the lunches and if you won’t want the onsite lunch then there is a Subway and Sonic just off the airport. We will be eating the lunches inside the control tower building which is air-conditioned.
Best,
-Derek
