Good morning D1!

On behalf of CD Andy Sabol, I am pleased to report we completed our 3rd AMA contest despite a major rain event this past weekend. Ed Alt helped us get started on Saturday AM by judging a round of Sportsman as that’s all we could fly before the rain arrived. Thanks again Ed! Andy and I took Sportsman Tom & Tom to breakfast and we had a nice conversation about the numerical relationship between pilot contestants and contestant judging.

Thanks again to Joe Lachowski for coming out yesterday to call, fly and judge. We all benefitted from that little bit of extra help around the contest house!

We were able to complete a best of 3 rounds contest by midday Sunday. Was a slow start skirting the scud from 9:30am, but spirits lifted with the ceiling and I think the only reason we stopped at 3 rounds was to go have lunch LOL! We had a lot of laughs and the banter just exploded when Stan showed up without an airplane to watch us fly AMA for a while in the hot sun. The results:

Sportsman
Tom Avedisian 2000
Andy Sabol 1957.95
Tom McDonald	1836.88

Intermediate
Dana Beaton 2000
Bob Both 1939.85

Advanced
Dale Hart 2000

Masters
Joe Lachowski	2000

From a D1 development perspective, it is noteworthy that all 3 Sportsman got time in the chair judging yesterday. We now have a number of Sportsman pilots in the NY, NY, PA tri-state area who might benefit greatly from anything we can offer to help them develop as contestant judges. While one or two might move up in 2016, the majority may continue to develop their flying skills in-class. Knowing more about how to score maneuvers may be helpful.

Looking ahead, CD Andy Sabol and I agreed that we are not planning to offer an AMA sanctioned Classic Pattern contest in 2016, as the only interest is within the LVRCS membership itself. Club President Dale Hart may opt to hold a Club Classic sometime this season for LVRCS members only. After three years of exploring Classic Pattern as a contest option in three different configurations, we have concluded that the interest is no longer there in D1 to pursue Classic at the District level in 2016. We tried, but the strongest interest was during that first year and its now clear that AMA/F3A is enough.

Also looking ahead, Andy and I have been reviewing learnings from holding contests at the LV over the past 3 seasons to improve our 2016 offering. Please send us any feedback on what will work best for D1 membership in the coming weeks and months as we complete the 2015 contest season.

Respectfully,
Dana Beaton
