[NSRCA-discussion] Nats Registration

Not ment to be demeaning, just kind of disappointing if I can't make a decision just prior to event with my work schedule. I truly apologize if it came across as a put down to those that work countless hard hours to put on the event. Major props to all involved, I know it's a lot of work.

Holy cow. How supportive. Stay home but don't demean the efforts of those who volunteer countless hours to set up and run this event.

Respectfully,
Mark Hunt

I was thinking about possibly attending the NATS this year..... I guess that's out of the picture now...... Sad......

Respectfully,

We live in a world where plans change at the blink of an eye. I like the idea of giving everyone every possible opportunity to participate, even if it’s close to the start of the event.

I’ll be there! Unless some last minute work drama turns up the day before I drive up ;-)

Once upon a time I too thought why close registration a month before the event. But after being involved with executing the Nats, I have found that those 4 weeks are a major scramble to finalize all the flight orders, judging assignments, programing issues for scoring, preparing and printing all the material for the pilot packets, creating contestant badges, stuffing all the packet envelopes, and executing all the other pressing matters to finalize preparations for the nats. Adding late registrants to the mix means almost starting over due to the effect it has on the computerized pilots schedules and judging assignments. All these volunteers who do all these tasks to put on the event also have jobs and families they need to attend to during that 4 weeks, so even though it seems like a lot of time to get it done, in reality, it is a monumental task especially is a team selection year.

In order to help the event run smoother and lighten the considerable load on the volunteers that plan and put on the event , we are asking for everyone to sign up a little earlier.

Sorry if this is an inconvenience, but it really helps those preparing the event.

Well, there is no perfect solution. However, it baffles me that for someone to wait until a couple of weeks before a major event that requires a week off, typically hours of travel, hundreds of dollars in expense, etc.,etc. one would wait until the last minute to sign up. Anyone that has a decent job would be expected to give the employer time to make adjustments for the employee’s absence. I would expect the family would appreciate the advance notice as well.

These comments also reflect the lack of understanding and appreciation for the amount of time, planning, coordination, work, and effort of behalf of all the VOLUNTEERS that put in their efforts to make the event happen. I will not explain all that, you are just going to have to figure it out.

I assure you this cutoff date has insignificant impact on the decline of the event. There are many factors causing that-not offering impulsiveness to come to the nats is not one of them. If you are on the fence, sign up to compete. If you cant make it then donate the entry fee. The nats is very expensive and the donation would be to a worthy cause.

If you are so concerned about all that feel free to come to the Nats and offer your services to help in any way possible.

I just saw on the flier that the cutoff date for Nats registration is June 1, 2020 with no late registration. I do not understand why with today’s technology

that we are closing registration 7 weeks before the contest – and we wonder why attendance drops. Last year I think I was able to fly all of a dozen

flights by 6/1. Also many people have a hard time knowing if they will even be able to attend that far out with work schedules etc.

It will not affect me this year because I have retired, however it has stopped me in the past.
