I had the same thought....If NATS continue to be 50-60 pilots, could we adopt a 3-4 day format rather than spreading it out a whole week.  Although it's still a long drive, most participation comes already from the district the NATS is held in.
September would be great, but if AMA wants all NATS to be in a month, I'm not sure how they'll respond.  I suppose Monte will explore this at the NATS ED meeting in Muncie coming up.

The last organized event in Muncie that I know of is the Indiana Warbird Campaign that's over the labor day weekend and takes up site 4.  Would there be less of an issue in September with the sun in the morning being a problem on the right side? Would we need to start a tad later in the am to allow for the shorter daylight? Hotel availability could be an issue if it coincides with a Ball State football game. Also there is a weekend in September where they have two large car shows that uses up most of the hotel rooms. One other thought. If the site is wide open can the Nats be sandwiched into a weekend event to eliminate the need to take a full week of work off?Say from Wednesday to Saturday? Like this year? Mike Mueller

I’m all for September. The NATS should conclude the portion of the year we all share as our flying season. 
Youth shouldn’t be part of the discussion. Mark mentioned a few events, and there are others, that dozens of young pilots attend during their school year. Bill

The AMA site is booked for the first two weeks of August for a helicopter event. The last weeks are after school starts.
