Hobbico/Horizon is not involved in Futaba import/distributing. Tower may continue to sell Futaba. Futaba is doing their own importing and distributing, as well as repair from here in Huntsville, AL. Word is they will make available everything Futaba makes with exception of some country specific radios not legal in US.

There is an interview on RCG with the Futaba rep that gives more info. They basically had to set up everything from nothing in a short period once Horizon bought Hobbico. The US operation is wholly owned by Futaba Japan.

Futaba has had facilities in Huntsville for years working other parts of their business. They are right across the street from a major intermodal center here with containers, air freight, trucking, and rail, so once containers arrive, things don't take long to get in Futabas hands. Steve Helms, who older pattern flyers remember, represented the hobby side here for years until a couple of years before his death. Obviously, with Futaba taking over their own distributing and repair, the hobby side has gotten much bigger. And no, I have no "ins" or connections there!

I don’t believe there is any increased duty on products made in Japan.

I have some NIB Futaba SBus2 servos I recently bought and they are all marked as ‘made in Taiwan’.

Pretty certain there is no increased duty on stuff made in Taiwan.

They aren’t charging more because they want to but because there is a 25% tax being put on all products coming out of Japan.
