That is how I do it too.

 

But I use an opposite connector to help me tap it through the front side.

 

Prevents buggering up the connector and helps get the connector properly
seated.

The way you assemble the HXT connectors is to push the wire through the
plastic housing, solder the connector on the wire and tap the connector back
into the housing by putting the wires down through a vise and drive the
connector into place.

that the battery side is putting the positive lead on the male bullet
(larger housing) and the neg lead on the female bullet (smaller housing).
Is that what most are doing?    Feels backwards to me, but I want to match
conventions so I can buy prewired stuff in the future.
