Don, that is exactly what I would have said, not from experience but from knowing electronics. In other words, yours is practice, mine is theory!! lol 

How much slower do they perform??

Yes , but the servo will be slower and less 'power'. I have been running some Futaba HV servos at 5.8V and they worked fine, just slower etc.
