Hey Everyone,

This week the AMA is going to help us out by pushing a letter I drafted to club officers of EVERY AMA Club in the USA. I'm looking for donations from our club organizations. For this to happen, there also needs to be a personal "Voice" making the plea as well.

I'm hoping that all of you at pattern flyers… all of whom are typically some of the most active members in your various clubs, will take the time to go to your next club meeting and bring this up to the officers. Ideally they will have seen this letter and be receptive to the conversation. If they missed it…please take a copy and show them. I'm hoping that clubs can donate $20, $50, $100 (or in some cases we've gotten $500) to the USA Team fund. Our BEST bet is clubs with active pattern flyers.

I've asked the AMA to let me send 3 email pushes to the club officer distribution so I plan to follow up on this email again in two months and again a month after that. That should be enough time to get it in front of the club body for a vote and such.

Again, without a voice in the room, this has little chance to help us. But one or two active members helping us make our case in your local clubs can go a long way. There's a LOT of us… and $100 donations add up fast.

Your help is greatly appreciated!!!!

%%First Name%%,

<http://%20www.TeamUSAF3A.com>[http://image.exct.net/lib/fec815777563057a/m/2/F3ALogo2013-500.jpg]<http://%20www.TeamUSAF3A.com>My name is Mark Atwood, and I'm reaching out to all AMA organizations for assistance in sending our USA RC Aerobatics team to South Africa to compete in the 2013 World Championship.

Many of you may know that the AMA selects the top three precision aerobatics pilots, and the top placing junior pilot, every two years to compete on the world stage. The USA has a long and proud tradition at these events, often bringing home the team gold, and occasionally individual gold! These are the who's who of the RC world with former US World Champions such as Chip Hyde and Quique Somenzini.

This year's USA team is one of the best teams we've put forth in many years with Andrew Jesky who placed 3rd in the 2011 World Championships as team captain.

Many people do NOT realize that the AMA and the pilots' sponsors do not cover the cost of this trip. While both make generous donations toward the event, it is left to the pilots and the team to raise the additional tens of thousands of dollars required to make the trip. The trip to South Africa is expected to be one of the most expensive, with an estimate of approximately $60,000 for the total team costs. If that sounds high, imagine taking 10 people (4 pilots, 4 callers/mechanics, team manager and assistant) to South Africa for 14 days, along with 8 large airplanes and equipment, local transportation for all equipment, etc. It adds up fast.

To help fund this prestigious event, we are reaching out to all AMA clubs in hopes that each club can make a small donation to the team, thereby helping to spread the load. Donations of any size are appreciated, but we're hopeful that as a club, donations of $100 or more would be possible. We also ask that you make the donation methods available to your club members (especially those who participate in competitive activities) in hopes that individual donations will also be received.

Donation can be made by any of the following methods:

   1) PayPal<https://www.paypal.com/> - our PayPal address is F3ATeamFund at NSRCA.org<mailto:F3ATeamFund at NSRCA.org?subject=Donations%20Email>

   2) Via the NSRCA website - www.NSRCA.us <http://www.NSRCA.us> and select FAI Team Fund Donations from the
main menu or type in this URL - http://nsrca.us/index.php/f3a-donations

   3) By check made out to AMA and mailed to:

   Colleen Pierce
FAI Coordinator - Academy of Model Aeronautics
   5161 E. Memorial Dr.
   Muncie IN 47302

Please specify USA F3A Team Fund in notes section of check.

In addition to direct donations, the team is also selling various Team USA apparel to help raise money and that can found at www.TeamUSAF3A.com<http://www.TeamUSAF3A.com> along with our fundraising raffle.

I realize that many modelers don't participate in competitive events and therefore may not feel that this endeavor is important. I can't stress enough that it IS important. Competitions drive most, if not all, of the technical innovations in our hobby, from the current trend toward electric power (the first large electrics were flown in the World Championships back in the mid '90s, well ahead of the sport enthusiast) all the way to the simplicity of efficient propeller designs. Supporting those who strive to excel on a world stage helps support our entire hobby, making it better for all of us.

I thank you on behalf of the team for any and all support that you're able to give us.

Sincerely,

Mark Atwood - AMA 2827
